UN Environment Programme was present at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP25) to take the next crucial steps to fight climate change. UNEP was supporting countries in their drive to raise their ambitions and move from negotiation to implementation. The urgent objectives were to translate the Paris Agreement into robust, ambitious, sufficient NDCs and ensure that they were set up for successful implementation.
Successful implementation won't happen in isolation: the Private Sector and Civil Society are stakeholders and change agents with a vital role to play and commitments to make. UNEP is committed to supporting the discussions regarding article 6 of the Paris Agreement, regarding common understanding and agreements between member statements regarding carbon taxation. UNEP is also conscious that the impacts of climate change are far-reaching and that this COP does not ignore the many inter-linkages to nexus issues such as biodiversity, health, security and the SDGs.
