Haiti’s Southern Region, or ‘Grand Sud’, is one of the Government’s priority regional development poles. As such, it was selected by UN Environment, together with Norway, to be a demonstration region for sustainable development and resilient economic growth through the development of a protected areas network to support ecosystem services, sustainable production in agro-ecological value chains and access to sustainable energy sources for rural areas disconnected from the main national electric grid.
