Judicial Portal

In Environmental law and governance

The Judicial Portal is a platform that promotes and provides greater access to judges and the global environmental law community with environmental law information and jurisprudence.  The portal is an innovative project developed by a Joint Working Group comprised of the World Commission on Environmental Law (WCEL), the Global Judicial Institute on the Environment (GJIE), and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

The portal is designed to facilitate and promote the exchange of environmental law information and experiences around the world. It contains unbiased legal and scientific content including a database of judicial decisions on environmental issues, online resources on environmental jurisprudence, an interactive mechanism for facilitating secure communication and discussion among judges, and training material on environmental law.

The Portal has three main sections: Information, Judicial Network, and E-Learning. Users will be able to search for environmental jurisprudence and legislation from around the world, access commentaries from judges on landmark decisions, and take online environmental law courses.

Though designed “for judges, by judges”, a portion of the portal is open to the public, including content on jurisprudence, legislation, and news. This provides a powerful resource for the global environmental law community and which will ultimately open and advance research across diverse geographic regions leading to the growth of the environmental rule of law.

The portal is an excellent resource to keep up to date with recent developments in the field of environmental law worldwide.
