On 10 August 2016, the Norwegian government signed a new framework agreement on development cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Norway’s Ambassador to Kenya, Mr. Victor Conrad Rønneberg and new UNEP Executive Director Erik Solheim were present and had witnessed the remarkable moment. The new agreement will replace the previous one which was signed over 10 years ago.
The framework agreement aims to strengthen the cooperation between the Government of Norway and UNEP, aiming to set forth the general terms and conditions for such cooperation. Norway hopes to support the realization of UNEP’s role and mandate as the leading global authority on the environment, as well as the sustainable development goals.
Norway has consistently made significant contributions to UNEP’s Environment Fund and is the 6th biggest contributor to the Environment Fund as of July 2016.
