Every week, at least three people are killed defending their right to a clean and healthy environment. This video shows the plight and struggle of Kenyan environmental rights defenders in fighting and advocating for the environmental rights of their community members who have suffered in silence in the wake of development. Bringing together defenders and raising their profile is just one strand of UN Environment’s work. Together with the Office of the UN High Commissioner on Human Rights and other stakeholders, UN Environment helps countries to strengthen and implement laws to protect environmental rights and those defending them.
