Dr. Desiree Montecillo- Narvaez is Programme Officer of the Chemicals and Waste Branch and is responsible for the UNEP Global Mercury Partnership’s work on health and mercury, on the reduction of intentional uses of mercury (products and processes) waste, storage and disposal. She also assists in UNEP’s work on Environment and Health.
Prior to joining UNEP in 2006, Dr. Narvaez was active with work on international chemicals management and worked on health and environmental linkage projects at the regional level with WHO WPRO and UNEP ROAP. She was short-term professional at WHO Geneva and earlier was Regional Director and Chief of the Environmental and Occupational Health Office in the Philippine Department of Health.
Dr. Narvaez holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, a Medical Degree, a Masters Degree in Public Health from the University of the Philippines, and a Certificate in Chronic Disease Epidemiology at the Stanford University in the USA. One of her relevant trainings is on international chemicals management with the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
