Biography

Dirk Snyman is the Action on Climate Expert for UN Environment’s Post-Conflict and Disaster Management Branch Country Programme in Afghanistan.

Dirk holds a Master’s degree in Conservation Ecology with a specialisation in community-based natural resource management. Prior to joining UN Environment in Afghanistan, he worked on climate change, disaster risk reduction, natural resource management and biodiversity conservation projects in Africa, Asia, the Pacific and the Caribbean. He has also held lectureships at universities in South Africa, with a focus on topics such as ecology and environmental conservation.

In his current position with UN Environment in Afghanistan, Dirk provides technical support and guidance to the climate action components of the Country Programme as well as the work of the Afghanistan Resilience Consortium. This includes initiatives on watershed management and ecosystem-based disaster risk reduction, as well as climate change adaptation and mitigation.
