Biography

Hyun Sung is a Programme Officer in the International Governance Unit, Law Division, who has been with UN Environment in the past 8 years.  Prior to joining the Law Division, she worked in the Governance Affairs Office, helping to organize the meetings of UN Environment governing bodies – the UN Environment Assembly (previously the Governing Council) and the Committee of Permanent Representatives.  In her current capacity, she works on promoting good governance of the environment and natural resources and coordinates UN Environment Assembly inputs to the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.

Before joining UN Environment, she worked as an Adviser on sustainable development issues to the President of the General Assembly at its 65th session (H.E. Mr. Joseph Deiss of Switzerland) and as an Adviser to a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea (H.E. Dr. Myung-ja Kim, former Minister of Environment).

Hyun holds a bachelor’s degree in history and anthropology from Cornell University and a master’s degree in public administration from New York University.
