Maria Morgado

Regional Coordinator


Biography

Maria Morgado joined the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in 2013 and is currently the regional coordinator for Climate Change and Nature at the North America Office, based in Washington D.C. Her work focuses on terrestrial, coastal and marine ecosystems, promoting and facilitating partnership building between UNEP and North American institutions and key stakeholders.

Maria previously worked at UNEP’s Europe Office, based in Brussels, working on EU Policy, Biodiversity and Ecosystems. She supported the Ecosystems sub-programme, coordinating and implementing biodiversity projects in the Pan European region.

Before joining UNEP, Maria worked at the European Climate Foundation, where she helped promote the IPCC’s Fifth Assessment Report. Maria is very familiar with sustainable development issues, having worked for UNICEF’s Latin America and the Caribbean Regional Office in Panama City supporting advocacy on health issues, and for the Spanish Development Agency in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in charge of the Culture and Development programme. She holds a master’s degree in Economic Development and Sustainability.
