Biography

Martin Krause (Germany) has been working within the UN system for 30 years on Climate, Environment and Energy issues, living in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Europe. In his current position as Director in the Technical Cooperation Department at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), he is the substantive senior advisor on climate adaptation and responsible for quality assurance, communication, and finance.

During 2002-2015 he led UNDP’s regional teams on environment, climate and energy based in Pretoria, Bangkok, and Istanbul. His main areas of expertise include climate policy and finance, energy access and renewable energy, as well as programme cycle management. He has worked extensively with global environmental funds, mobilizing resources, and designing, implementing, and monitoring technical cooperation projects with national governments.

Mr. Krause started as a Junior Professional Officer in UNDP’s Argentina office in 1994 and in 1997 he moved to New York serving as the Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator of UNDP’s Environment Unit. Later he was involved in designing and implementing the first generation of climate adaptation programmes in Africa and in pioneering climate finance approaches in rural renewable energy programmes. He obtained a MSc in Geography from the Free University of Berlin, a post-graduate degree in Development Policy from the German Development Institute and a BA in Political Sciences/ International Relations.
