Mike Spilsbury is the Director of the Evaluation Office at the UN Environment Programme. He has over 30 years of international experience in the evaluation of environmental research and development projects/programmes. He has served as Chair of the UN Evaluation Group’s Peer Review Working Group and has chaired several studies of UN and other multilateral evaluation functions.
Prior to joining the UNEP Evaluation Office in 2005, he was responsible for the evaluation of the effects of development-oriented public good research at the Center for International Forestry Research based in Bogor, Indonesia.
He has also worked as a postdoctoral researcher studying lowland tropical forests in Malaysian Borneo and in the private sector as a development project designer and manager for an environmental consulting firm. He holds both Master's and Doctoral degrees in forestry/ecology from Oxford University, UK and has authored more than 40 publications.
