Remco joined the Finance Initiative of UN Environment (UNEP FI) in 2007 and is responsible for the Initiative’s strategy on climate change. He develops and implements projects that support the alignment of the finance sector with climate-compatible economic development. Activities include policy engagement, the development of finance sector platforms, tools and guidelines, as well as research and training. Remco has been a leading or supporting author of more than a dozen UNEP publications on sustainable finance, and co-led the establishment of the Portfolio Decarbonization Coalition (PDC), a group of institutional investors now committed to aligning USD 800 billion in assets with the low-carbon economy.
Prior to joining UNEP FI, Remco worked as an analyst in the infrastructure team at the German Development Finance Institution (DEG; KfW Group of Banks), and helped design structured deals in project finance. He holds a British BA Honours in Business Administration and Economics from Napier University in Edinburgh and a dual German/Spanish Diplom (MSc) from Aachen University of Applied Sciences and Universidad de Alicante, and is fluent in English, German, Spanish and French.
