Ms. Ruth Do Coutto has more than 25 years of professional experience in the field of environmental, climate and chemicals policy and programme development and management.
She is currently serving as the Deputy Director of UNEP’s Climate Change Division. In this capacity she supports the Division in delivering effective strategic guidance in support of the transition towards climate stability; providing technical support to governments to enhance their policy development and implementation capacity and helping them access finance to align to the Paris Agreement.
She has held multiple management positions at UNEP, including Chief of the Mitigation Branch where she led teams in the areas of energy efficiency, cooling, buildings, cities, climate finance, technology, methane reduction, food waste, transparency, NDCs, and vertical funds. She has also served as manager of the GEF and GCF mitigation portfolios, as Division programme and resource mobilization coordinator, Safer Production Initiative lead, etc.
Prior to UNEP, she worked for the Environmental Agency of the State of Sao Paulo (CETESB),
Brazil, on accident prevention and preparedness of industrial activities.
She is a Chemical Engineer by training with a post-graduate degree on pollution prevention from the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
