Sophie Brown is Programme Advisor and Communications Focal Point for UN Environment’s Post-Conflict and Disaster Management Branch, based in Geneva. Sophie holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Policy from L'Institut d'études politiques de Paris (Sciences Po), with specialisations in Global Risks (Climate Change) and International Energy. She also holds a First Class Honours degree in Geography (BSc) from Durham University, United Kingdom, and won the British Society for Geomorphology Dissertation Prize for her undergraduate dissertation on global landslide hazard.
A fluent French and English speaker, Sophie has travelled widely and been actively engaged in volunteering and non-profit endeavours over the last 10 years. She also worked for 3 years teaching English to professionals in France and Switzerland. Sophie is a passionate advocate of the need to communicate environmental issues to the wider public. She has also developed a keen interest in understanding the links between climate change and insecurity, as well as how natural resources can be used as an instrument for peace in post-conflict situations.
