Tina Birmpili is an international professional with thirty years of experience in policy analysis and implementation of sustainable development and management at all levels of governance. Since March 2022, she has been the Chief Officer of the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol, one of the most successful funding mechanisms to assist developing countries in complying with the provisions of the Montreal Protocol and its amendments. Prior to her current assignment, she was the Deputy Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification. Previously, the Executive Secretary of the Ozone Secretariat on the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. In particular, she headed the Ozone Secretariat during the negotiations that led to the adoption of the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol.
Her academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Physics from the University of Athens, a Master of Science (MSc) in Environmental Technology, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Environmental Management and Economics from Imperial College of Science, Technology, and Medicine, London. She is a member of the Future of Cooling Programme of the University of Oxford.
