Asia Pacific Roadmap on Sustainable Consumption and Production Roadmap 2017-2018

Overview

The Asia Pacific Roadmap on Sustainable Consumption and Production 2017-2018 was developed in concert with government focal points and stakeholders to identify countries needs and priorities for regional and national level activities to promote Sustainable Consumption and Production practices and policies. It is the product of a broad consultative process and creates a concerted mechanism for action in terms of strengthening the regions ability to deliver on the Sustainable Consumption and Production related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Development Agenda.

Asia Pacific Roadmap Goals and Objectives

  1. Mainstream Sustainable Consumption and Production as an integrative approach to deliver on the SDGs and 10YFP
  2. Development of government and stakeholder capacity to implement Sustainable Consumption and Production policies and programs in specific Sustainable Consumption and Production domains;
  3. Strengthen linkages between new and existing cooperation, dialogue and delivery platforms for Sustainable Consumption and Production in Asia-Pacific
  4. Monitoring Sustainable Consumption and Production (both the resource use data as well as the platform to understand who is doing what)

The Asia Pacific region already has a strong platform for cooperation and key assets towards Sustainable Consumption and Production, including actively engaged 10YFP Board members, the Asia Pacific Roundtable on Sustainable Consumption and Production (APRSCP) as well as sub-regional fora on Sustainable Consumption and Production, 30 countries engaged through their 10YFP National Focal Points, regional Stakeholder Focal Points, over 70 governments and organizations engaged at various levels in the 10YFP programmes, and many more through key projects such as SWITCH-Asia supporting implementation at regional and national levels.

With the Asia Pacific Regional Roadmap for Sustainable Consumption and Production 2017-2018, the region makes an effort to consolidate these efforts even further, with a view to strengthening synergies and bringing all networks together for greater collective impacts. The roadmap has been created through a bottom-up and consultative process and includes the following key priority Sustainable Consumption and Production sectors and activities;

It should be stressed that the Roadmap is intended to be a living guidance document, providing direction in terms of countries’ needs for regional and national level activities, and to provide a mechanism for collaboration and coordinated investment in efforts between interested partners. This entails that the roadmap steering committee will be continued to allow for Governments and stakeholder to provide comments and suggestion for revisions. Any revision will be review by the steering committee and submitted for consultation amongst the stakeholder community at regular intervals, or at suitable events.
