The endocrine system is a collection of glands that produce hormones. These hormones regulate our metabolism, growth and development. EDCs interfere with hormonal function, and have been shown to cause adverse health and environmental effects. Their health effects include cancer, certain reproductive, developmental, and neurological disorders.
Exposure to EDCs can occur through ingestion of food, water and dust, through inhalation of gases and particles in the air, and through absorption of chemicals through the skin. Some EDCs can also be transferred from mother to baby through the placenta and breast milk.
