Global climate change will likely have severe impacts in Afghanistan. Due to the large gaps in the observation data of Afghanistan, the report analyzed data from different regions in Afghanistan from 1950 to 2010. The purpose of this report is to update and evaluate the consistency of a new generation of climate models in order to predict the climate change impacts in the country to invest in mitigation, resilience, and adaption measures.
The projections are based on the third generation of Global Climate Models (GCM) generated within the Coupled-Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP). For future climate trends, seven different Regional climate models (RCM) and Global Climate Models (GCM) combinations were evaluated as part of the CORDEX project, which is an international coordinated framework to produce an improved generation of regional climate change projections world-wide for input into impact and adaptation studies.
