UN Environment this year commemorates 45 years of its existence with a track record in leading efforts to protect our environment. Established in December 1972 as a follow up to the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment, UN Environment further strengthened its strategic leadership in 2016, exercising its role as a global authority on the environment. It implemented its Medium Term Strategy and Programme of Work, strengthening
its partnership with governments, local authorities, the UN system, the scientific community, business, investors, and civil society. No stakeholder was left behind in the joint effort to address the challenges of sustainability and resilience.
