Ghana continues to suffer from unsustainable consumption of its natural resources, including forests, minerals, water and fish. Development efforts based on resource-efficient, cleaner production are seen as essential for achieving sustainable development while addressing pervasive environmental degradation. In Ghana, manufacturing, integrated waste management and tourism were identified as the priority sectors for SWITCH Africa Green interventions.
The national institutions guiding programme implementation in Ghana are the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI), Environmental Protection Agency and Ghana National Cleaner Production Centre.
The SWITCH Africa Green programme is developed and funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Environment Programme and European Union Delegations in the participating countries.
