Project Title: Capacity Strengthening and Technical Assistance for Environmentally Sound Management of Chemicals and Wastes in The Gambia
Project Summary: This project aims to foster the engagement all relevant stakeholders in capacity strengthening activities on sound management of chemicals and hazardous wastes. The Gambia’s National Environment Agency and the secretariat to chemicals national chemicals and wastes management collaborate with the Pesticides and Hazardous chemicals Program in the implementation and enforcement of the provision of our national chemicals’ legislation and MEAs. This project seeks to complement current national activities, promote enabling activities, and strengthen human resource capacities to enhance implementation of obligations of the BRS conventions.
Project Objectives:
- Capacity building of the National Environment Agency’s chemicals and pesticides and the Environmental Quality Programme on the Implementation of the BRS Conventions.
- Revising and updating the national solid waste management strategy.
- Conducting training and sensitization of key stakeholders, environmental inspectors, pesticide applicators, importers of chemicals, women gardens and others on the legislations governing chemicals and waste management in the Gambia.
- Strengthening institutional capacity of the National Environment Agency and key stakeholders, for the sustainable implementation of the Multilateral Environment Agreements.
