Joining forces to accelerate the fight against AMR

The Quadripartite Joint Secretariat on AMR (QJS) is the central coordinating mechanism to support the global response to antimicrobial resistance. It consolidates cooperation between the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), drawing on their core mandates.

The AMR Quadripartite Joint Secretariat (QJS) coordinates the daily joint activities and supports global governance structures such as the Global Leaders Group on Antimicrobial Resistance and the Multistakeholder Partnership Platform as well as the financial mechanism AMR Multi-Partner Trust Fund.

The joint technical work includes integrated surveillance; economics of AMR; monitoring & evaluation; the Tracking AMR Country Self-assessment Survey (TrACSS); awareness raising; youth engagement; legal assessment; regulatory authorities; and research agenda.

The four organizations developed a joint strategic framework for collaboration on AMR and a common work plan sets out how the organizations will collaborate to deliver the vision of the Framework, defining workstreams implemented by the four organizations collaboratively over the next years. In 2022, they signed an agreement to strengthen their co-operation and fully integrate environmental considerations into One Health efforts, including those related to AMR. They also developed the One Health Joint Plan of Action, with AMR as one of the six action tracks.
