Finance and governance are two critical factors that play a central role in the development of sustainable food systems.

The transition towards sustainable food systems requires additional public and private financial resources. The financial sector can support the transition to a net-zero, nature-positive economy through modifying their lending and financing decisions to ultimately align clients’ portfolios with sustainable production.

The way in which food systems are governed has direct consequences on how natural resources are managed. An integrated, multi-stakeholder and multi-level approach to sustainable food systems governance can contribute to more integrated food policies that combine considerations for nature, food security, health and livelihoods.
