UNEP aims to help bridge the gap between science and policy and transform humanity’s relationship with the environment.
Scientific understanding of the marine and coastal environment’s responses to pressures and management actions is fundamental for sustainable development. We need more proactive, scientific, streamlined and efficient knowledge production systems that deliver clear and accessible real-time information on threats and solutions.
Ocean and coastal observations are essential to predict the consequences of change, design mitigation strategies, and guide adaptation. Moreover, early warning, foresight, scenario-building,
predictive analytics and a new generation of integrated assessment models will be key to building UNEP’s future science-policy interface.
UNEP embraces knowledge derived from diverse sources & aims to accelerate a digital transformation. Learning from stakeholders ranging from respected scientists to traditional knowledge systems is key to achieving a more inclusive science-policy interface which delivers solutions that work with nature to end the triple planetary crisis.
Our work on Science and innovation is carried out through public-private partnerships, often involving partners, collaborating centers and networks.
