Youth, Education and Environment

UNEP is collaborating with major university networks, youth movements, sports organisations and the gaming industry to engage millions of young people, empowering them to learn, take action, and lead on environmental sustainability.

The largest generation in history is stepping up to shape a greener, more sustainable future.

With half of the global population under 30, young people are not just inheriting the planet—they are actively driving the transition to cleaner, greener technologies and industries. UNEP is committed to supporting this generation through a comprehensive approach. The Youth Education and Advocacy Unit at UNEP:   → partners with major university networks, the Scout Movement, sports organisations and the video gaming industry to innovatively engage millions of young people in environmental action → invests in environmental education and education for sustainable development to equip young leaders with the knowledge to meet the Global Goals → creates opportunities for green jobs to turn the "youth bulge" into a "youth boom"; and → collaborates with governments and institutions to ensure young people have the tools and platforms to lead a sustainable, carbon-neutral future.
