Since 2019, UNEP has partnered with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), CEE India, and WWF-India to adapt and scale the Tide Turners Plastic Challenge in India. Over 700,000 young people have already been mobilized, driving real change on the ground.

State-Wide Plastic Ban in Bihar, India: A youth-led campaign by Tide Turners successfully resulted in a state-wide ban on single-use plastics in Bihar. Read more here.
 
Empowering Women and Inclusive Youth Engagement: With 53% of participants being girls and women, the initiative is fostering gender equality. Inclusive workshops also engage differently-abled youths, including those participating in the Special Olympics. Read more here.
 
Circular Economy for Poverty Reduction: The programme is piloting innovative circular solutions that not only tackle plastic pollution but also uplift communities by promoting poverty reduction.
 
Marine Conservation and Plastic Pollution Reduction: Tide Turners has averted over 21,600 kg of plastic waste from polluting marine environments and protected critical ecosystems by removing harmful ghost nets along the Kerala and Orissa coasts.
 
Government Support in Implementation of Tide Turners Plastic Challenge: Educational authorities from the goverments of the states of New Delhi, Tamil Nadu and Orissa have encouraged, and in some cases, mandated for the students to take part in the Tide Turners Plastic Challenge. Read more here.
