Inclusive and science-driven environmental policies, strengthen governance systems and advance sustainable development.
Inclusive and coherent environmental policies are essential for effective governance systems that support sustainable development. UNEP works with Member States to develop and implement robust policies and laws by leveraging the science-policy interface, fostering policy coherence, and encouraging inclusive stakeholder participation. UNEP strengthens the science-policy interface to guide informed decision-making at all levels.
UNEP facilitates access to the best available science for impactful environmental action, and enhances collaboration to support multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs) through inclusive, science-based policies. Furthermore, UNEP integrates environmental commitments into Common Country Analyses (CCAs) and UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Frameworks (UNSDCFs), ensuring a comprehensive and collaborative approach to advancing sustainability.
UNEP is working across the UN system with the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA) and the multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs), in collaboration with the private sector and civil society organizations among other stakeholders, to meet international and national environmental commitments for sustainable development.
