When: Friday 27th October at 10:30-11:30 (EST)
Where: Contadora III, Marriott Panama Hotel Albrook Mall, Panama City
This is an official core event of the Latin America and the Caribbean Climate Week 2023.
Current actions toward adaptation do not match the ambition for transformational adaptation and climate resilient development at large. The increasing climate change impacts will affect all regions and in particular the most vulnerable groups and communities. Many coastal cities are at significant risk from climate change due to flooding, storm surges and sea level rise. An estimated 700 million people live in urban or peri-urban areas that are less than 10 m above sea level (Center for International Earth Science Information Network 2019).
This session aims to discuss current Nature-based Solutions approaches to address the converging challenges of climate change and urbanisation. We will look at the perspectives of governments, civil society, practitioners, academy and businesses to promote the integration and implementation of NbS through innovative regulatory, governance and financing mechanisms, and offer insights into opportunities for future work with focus on urban coastal areas.
