When: Wednesday 25th October at 17:00-18:00 (EST)
Where: Amador II, Marriott Panama Hotel, Panama City
Organizers: UNEP, IUCN, Fundación Futuro Latinoamericano, CDKN
This is an official side-event of the Latin America and the Caribbean Climate Week 2023.
Local communities are on the frontlines of climate change impacts; however, they and other local actors rarely are given the opportunity to lead their adaptation process. This event aims to promote programs, funding and practices towards adaptation that is increasingly owned by local actors. The event will explore challenges and opportunities in complying with the principles of LLA, discuss promising practices to promote them and showcase examples and experiences of LLA implementation in the Latin America region.
Based on the experience of the Global Fund on Ecosystem-based Adaptation, jointly co-managed by UNEP and IUCN, and its grantees, as well as on the work of Fundacion Futuro Latinoamericano with Latin American Water Funds, the event will take the form of a solution-oriented interactive discussion between multiple-stakeholders.
Some of the key objectives from the session include:
- Sharing experiences and lessons learned from projects focused on LLA in the region;
- Identifying and promoting promising evidence-based practices;
- Promoting increased ownership of adaptation processes by local actors through the use of LLA principles for effective climate action.
