Where: Marriott Panama Hotel Albrook Mall, Sala Ancón II

This is an official side-event of the Latin America and the Caribbean Climate Week 2023.

Addressing loss and damage (L&D) is now seen as a third pillar of climate action, along with mitigation and adaptation, and has emerged as a key concern to respond to the climate crisis, as evidenced by the agreement at COP27 to establish an additional and dedicated financing mechanism for this purpose.

Despite recent progress, there is limited evidence and clarity on how countries can assess loss and damage, including economic and non-economic kinds, and formulate and implement efficient policies and strategies to address them. A multi-stakeholder dialogue is necessary to understand loss and damage in the climate action continuum and link long-term strategies at the global, national and local levels.

The session aims to engage diverse stakeholders to discuss experiences in assessing and addressing climate-induced loss and damage, including the ones related to ecosystems and ecosystem services, and highlight the progress across the region.
