Eco-innovation is a new business approach which promotes sustainability throughout the entire life cycle of a product, while also boosting a company’s performance and competitiveness. It can help small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) access new and expanding markets, increase productivity, attract new investment into the business, increase profitability across the value chain, and help SMEs stay ahead of regulations and standards – notably those related to the environment.

The Eco-innovation Manual

UN Environment, with funding from the European Commission and the support of DTU (Technical University of Denmark), has created a fresh, informative website to introduce eco-innovation and encourage businesses in developing countries and emerging economies to embark on the eco-innovation journey.

At www.ecoinnovation.org, companies and other stakeholders can use the eco-innovation manual to get started with eco-innovation, and browse through success stories from around the world, eco-innovation country case studies, and tutorial videos to explain the phases and activities of eco-innovation. This initiative follows the work of the Eco-innovation Project, funded by the European Commission and co-ordinated by UN Environment, which ran from 2012 to 2017 in developing and transition economies.
