Overview
The Global Framework on Chemicals advances safer chemicals management through initiatives that strengthen policies, enhance collaboration, and build capacity. From the Gender Action Plan to implementation programmes, these efforts reduce chemical risks to protect human health and the environment.
Sustainable Development Goals
Ensuring progress toward the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development requires safer chemicals management. The Global Framework on Chemicals plays a vital role in this effort by reducing chemical risks, protecting ecosystems, and promoting sustainable practices worldwide.
Gender action
A Gender Action Plan is in development to integrate gender equality into chemicals and waste management. It will address the unique risks women face and enhance their role in decision-making.
GHS implementation
A pilot project is supporting implementation of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, and Côte d'Ivoire. If successful, it will drive broader adoption of GHS across Africa.
Implementation programmes
In collaboration with the Inter-Organizational Programme for Sound Chemicals Management, the Global Framework on Chemicals is launching implementation programmes to tackle key chemicals and waste management challenges.
Measurability and indicators
Tracking progress is key to the Global Framework on Chemicals’ success in reducing chemical and waste impacts. An expert group is developing indicators to measure actions, results, and overall impact.
