The development of national and city waste management strategy and action plan, and pilot demonstration are in line with the overall goal to provide support on national and local capacity for waste management. With these, adopting waste management as a national priority presents an opportunity to address the challenges on political and social visibility. The national and city strategies will provide the framework under which policy, institutional arrangements, financing mechanisms, technical options and stakeholders’ roles for effective and efficient waste management system will be defined. The presentation of the pilot demonstration will build the technical capacity and showcase the appropriate technologies for achieving the goals of waste management in terms of minimizing negative impacts on environment and health and recovering resources from waste.
The workshop is jointly organized by the Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET) of Mongolia and the UNEP International Environmental Technology Centre (UNEP IETC), under the project ‘Delivering integrated solutions at the National and Local level’. The technical project partner is the Asian Institute of Technology, Regional Resource Centre for Asia and the Pacific (AIT RRC.AP), Thailand.
This consultation/review workshop aims to present and discuss the Draft National Waste Management Strategy and Action Plan (Mongolia), the draft City Waste Management Strategy and Action Plan (Ulaanbaatar), and present the pilot demonstration project.
