Global Waste Management Outlook 2024 – The importance of reliable waste data

This side-event at the fourteenth meeting of the open-ended working group of Basel Convention will build upon the findings and themes outlined in the recently launched Global Waste Management Outlook 2024, a collaborative effort between the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA). Key areas of focus will include the quality and availability of waste data, or the lack thereof, within the context of enhancing waste management practices and ensuring accountability in waste movement.

The session will feature presentations from speakers representing UNEP, ISWA, authors of the report, and government representatives from  the Republic of Ghana and the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. The speakers will give a short presentation before a Q&A session will open up with question from within the room as well as online participants.
