• Overview
Achieving a pollution-free planet through sustainable waste management

UNEP's International Environmental Technology Centre (IETC) has been working on various projects under its mission of promoting environmentally sound waste management. In the age of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), it is necessary to consider sustainability from the perspective of waste management. A pollution-free planet cannot be achieved without efficient circularity of resources and reduction of waste both at individual and societal levels.

IETC has also been implementing cross-sectional project activities on waste and sustainability, waste and climate change, and waste and gender.

Every two years, UNEP-IETC organizes the UNEP Global Dialogue to invite experts, leaders, and practitioners of sustainable waste management to discuss the latest global trends. This year’s main theme will be "Sustainable Waste Management towards a Pollution-Free Planet". Over the scheduled three days, multifaceted discussions will be delivered on various topics including plastic waste, COVID-19 waste, and E-waste with the goal of saving the future of our planet beyond the SDGs.
