In celebration of the International Women’s Day, UNEP International Environmental Technology Centre is pleased to announce the launch of the video series, GENDER AND WASTE NEXUS.
The waste sector is assumed to be gender neutral, but gender inequalities and norms are embedded in almost every aspect of waste management, leading to a gendered division of labour. Yet, currently, most waste management policies are gender blind. Women are also especially under-represented in high-level decision-making positions in both the public and private sectors.
This video series, developed as part of the project on Gender and waste nexus: Experiences from Bhutan, Mongolia and Nepal, introduces voices of women and men from Bhutan, Mongolia and Nepal on the issues of gender in waste management and how to empower women.
