Climate Change Adaptation Experts Gather to Boost Adaptation Cooperation

Panama City, 6 March 2015 - One hundred climate change adaptation experts and policymakers from around the world are gathering in Panama City this week to share knowledge and boost cooperation in the field of climate change adaptation.

The two day forum - hosted by the Global Adaptation Network (GAN) - will enable the exchange of latest ideas, and good practices - as well as debate and discussion - on adaptation networks and climate change adaptation.

The forum is convened by the GAN and facilitated by the United Nations Environment Programme, with the support of the Governments of Japan, Norway, and Spain, and the European Commission.

The key objectives of the Forum include: mobilizing GAN Network members to share adaptation knowledge; assemble adaptation practitioners and experts in order to build closer linkages between different organizations; and empower organizations and networks to help countries and communities in their delivery of adaptation solutions.

The GAN was launched in 2010 with the objective of building the climate resilience of vulnerable communities, ecosystems and economies through the mobilization of knowledge for adaptation. Headquartered in Nairobi, the GAN is operational through its four regional networks - in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia and the Pacific, and West-Asia.

Since 2014, the GAN has focused its work on identifying, prioritizing and filling knowledge gaps through the Adaptation Knowledge Initiative, an action pledge to the Nairobi Work Programme of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change UNFCCC.
