UN Environment Programme engages with African Major Groups and Stakeholders as partners and values their role in advancing the implementation of the environmental agenda in Africa. Through its Regional Office for Africa, UNEP supports the African Major Groups and Stakeholders in engaging with governments and partners through key regional and global intergovernmental platforms, mainly the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN) and the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA).
The African Major Groups and Stakeholders play key roles in supporting the formation of environmental policies as researchers, think-tanks, watchdogs, and through advocacy. They also work closely with African communities at the grassroots level to support them overcome environmental challenges and find adapted solutions.
UNEP appreciates working with African Major Groups and Stakeholders and provides them with science-based knowledge and technical support to fulfill their roles. It facilitates their participation in major events to ensure their voice is heard.
