The Waste Management Outlook for Latin America and the Caribbean analyzes the current situation of waste management in the region, its environmental challenges and trends, and outlines the actions required to achieve an efficient management and move towards a circular economy, key to sustainable development.
The report is a response to the request of Member States, in the framework of the Forum of Ministers of Environment of Latin America and the Caribbean and the UN Environment Assembly.
The document, which has received valuable contributions from numerous governments and experts from the region, highlights the urgent need to eradicate harmful practices, such as open dumps, and promoting the expansion of formal waste management systems in the region.
