Goal: support for a Grand Sud Regional Plan to guide private and public investment and consider biodiversity values, ecosystem services, environmental health issues, as well as sustainable energy.
Since 2013, UNEP has supported the Government of Haiti to promote sustainable development planning in Haiti’s Grand Sud Region (South, Grand’Anse and Nippes Departments). The overarching goal is to support the Government in developing a sustainable and resilient regional development plan that will address the root causes of extreme poverty, including environmental degradation, vulnerability to natural disasters and limited access to social services and economic opportunities.
Through cooperation with the Interministerial Territorial Management Committee (CIAT), UNEP supports the regular meetings of the Grand Sud Regional Coordination Tables. These bring together key government, NGO, civil society and academic stakeholders to support the development of a Grand Sud Regional Development Plan to guide public and private investment and integrate biodiversity, ecosystem services, environmental health and sustainable energy concerns.
