Virtual Peatlands Pavilion, Resource Library
UNEP’s GPI is an international hub for researchers, practitioners, artists and initiatives to exchange best practices, valuable experience and new ideas on peatlands.
Members of the Initiative work together within their respective areas of expertise to improve the conservation, restoration and sustainable management of peatlands. In this way, the GPI contributes to several Sustainable Development Goals, including by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, maintaining ecosystem services and securing lives and livelihoods through improved adaptive capacity. Its dedicated website www.globalpeatlands.org and the innovative Virtual Peatlands Pavilions designed for UNFCCC COPs store a diverse range of peatlands content from many different partners.
The Virtual Peatlands Pavilion, launched during COP26 and updated for COP28, is an interactive 3D digital space showcasing multimedia content on peatland conservation from the GPI partners. With nine thematic floors covering topics like restoration, paludiculture, and peatland science, it provides an immersive experience for global audiences. The Pavilion plays a crucial role in knowledge management by centralising and sharing cutting-edge research, policy discussions, and best practices through its Virtual Peatland Pavilion Library. This accessible, transdisciplinary platform, fosters global collaboration, amplifying the GPI’s mission to protect peatlands as vital carbon sinks and biodiversity hotspots.
The Resource Library on the GPI website serves as a central hub for peatland-related knowledge, offering a wide range of latest news, publications, reports, videos, and multimedia resources from experts and organisations worldwide. This comprehensive repository plays a key role in knowledge management by providing easy access to the latest science, best practices, policy frameworks, and case studies on peatland conservation, restoration, and sustainable management.
