The effectiveness of antimicrobials is in jeopardy because microorganisms have become resistant to them.
Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) demands urgent action to safeguard our ability to treat human, animal, and plant diseases, as well as ensuring food safety and security, fostering economic development and equity, protecting the environment, and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals.
Prevention is at the core of the action and environment is a key part of the solution. UNEP, as the leading global environmental authority, is working to provide science-based evidence that can inform strategies on AMR and ensure that the environmental dimensions are adequately reflected in the global response to AMR.
