UNEP has identified 92 environment related SDG Indicators. Of these 92, UNEP is the custodian for 25 SDG Indicators. A significant lack of data has corresponded to a lack of investment toward achieving the environmental dimension of the SDGs.

In 2020, of 92 SDG indicators relevant to the environment, 42% had sufficient data to assess progress made in achieving the SDG targets (MP II, UNEP 2021) with an increase of 10% compared with 2018 (MP I, UNEP 2019). However, with the addition of indicators with sufficient data to be assessed, the percentage of indicators showing a positive trend toward meeting the relevant SDG has declined from 74% in 2018 to 67% in 2020.

The National Scorecard will assist UN Country Teams and national stakeholders in their Common Country Analysis (CCA) and the SDG Voluntary National Reviews (VNR) and promote the integration of the environment in their SDG analysis and implementation.
