Ghana has achieved strong economic growth over the past two decades, out-performing regional peers at reducing poverty and improving social indicators.
However it was the triple crisis from 2006 to 2009, centering on food, fuel, and finance, which stimulated the Government of Ghana to begin a transition to a more sustainable approach. Starting with the 2010 publication of Ghana Goes for Green Growth , the government recognized the importance of a green economy and drafted a National Energy Policy, including a strategy for renewable energy
