Addressing the key barriers to the uptake and scaling up of Ecosystem-Based Adaptation (EbA) and building resilience within communities will require innovative and catalytic approaches and solutions. The IKI Global EbA Fund, co-implemented by IUCN and UNEP, aims to provide rapid and targeted support through seed capital for innovative approaches to scale up EbA.

The 7th EbA Knowledge Day – organized by GIZ and IUCN under the Friends of EbA (FEBA) network – took place on May 26th and was themed “Overcoming Barriers to Adaptation: Employing Innovative EbA Approaches to Upscale Nature-based Solutions (NbS)”. It is a yearly meeting for EbA policymakers, practitioners, donors and researchers.

Using the EPIC Model in Asian Cities

The EPIC (Educational Partnerships for Innovation in Communities) network model has a proven track record of identifying win-win community-university partnerships –– by first asking communities what they need and want and then matching those needs to existing faculty courses and programs of study.

EPIC-N, in partnership with UNEP’s Global Adaptation Network and START, is pleased to offer a virtual learning workshop on the EPIC model for Asian countries.

Kunming, China Conference Ecosystems and Biodiversity

15 July 2020 – New dates have been announced for three key UN meetings, including the UN Biodiversity Conference, crucial to the development of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework. 
 
As approved by the Bureau, the fifteenth meeting of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP-15), originally scheduled for October 2020, will now be held 17-30 May 2021, in Kunming, China. 
 
Dates and venue have also been announced for the meetings of the Convention’s two subsidiary bodies.

Workshop Climate change

The Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) is organizing three webinars to share early lessons from the first call for submission of applications to the Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator (AFCIA) programme. The launch of this new USD 10 million pilot small grants programme was announced at COP25 in Madrid. UNEP, CTCN and UNDP are administrating the AFICA, offering technical assistance (UNEP/CTCN) and grant funding (UNDP) to developing countries.
