Current Projects

The objective of this grant is to support countries in revising and updating their National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) in order to align with the recently agreed upon Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, and enable effective implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Kunming Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework at the national level. In addition, this grant supports countries in preparing and submitting their 7th National Report on the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

To increase the management effectiveness of the Grand-Bereby Marine Protected Area (MPA)

To strengthen institutional, human and regulatory capacities and promote cooperative measures in the implementation of National Biosafety Frameworks for the safe transfer, handling and use of living modified organisms (LMOs) in Asia.

To mainstream natural capital into integrated watershed management through application of natural capital accounting in Lesotho.

The project is to strengthen institutional biosecurity frameworks in the management of invasive alien species and living modified organisms through a coordinated risk analysis measures in line with the Convention of Biological Diversity, Cartagena Protocol, its Supplementary Protocol and relevant Invasive Alien Species regulations in Moldova.

Effective management of Mchinji forest and supporting local government institutions and communities to enhance conservation and sustainable use of Forest resources to maintain and restore biodiversity and ecosystem services in community forests and communal lands

Project Objective: To promote a Wildlife Economy approach that benefits people and strengthens wildlife management in the CAMPFIRE areas in Tsholotsho District.

To strengthen aquaculture policy, planning, management, and production to protect and enhance marine biodiversity in Palau through an ecosystem approach

To reduce the threats to endangered reptiles from habitat loss and Invasive Alien Species by enhancing biodiversity governance and biosecurity frameworks in Barbados.

To create an enabling environment and evidence-based approach for managing the effects of human-wildlife conflict in the SADC region

Strengthen governmental and non-governmental capacities to achieve biodiversity conservation and land degradation neutrality in Middle Euphrates landscape through integrated landscape management.

To enhance the enabling environment to effectively implement the provisions of the Nagoya Protocol with a harmonized institutional and intersectoral approach as well as demonstrate replicable models for equitable and sustainable access and benefit sharing (ABS).

To support the operationalization of the ABS national framework, by enabling access to genetic resources and associated traditional knowledge that accrues tangible national and local economic benefits from their commercial utilization in a fair, equitable, and sustainable manner.

To strengthen institutional biosecurity frameworks in the management of living modified organisms and invasive alien species through a coordinated risk analysis measure

To leverage the conservation caucus model to increase the sustainability of funding for protected areas systems.

To foster sustainable practices in the agave-mezcal value chain in the Oaxaca Mezcal Region through an integrated landscape management approach that privileges non-monoculture cultivation, species protection and the maintenance of ecosystems services.

To identify approaches and promote mutually reinforcing legal frameworks and alignment of financial resources for global biodiversity benefits.

To promote sustainable approaches to ecosystem conservation in the Imatong landscape of South Sudan

To enhance biodiversity conservation and environmental sustainability of critical coastal landscapes in India by integrating natural capital and ecosystem services values in District-level blue economy strategy and spatial planning processes, and coastal sector operations

To achieve biodiversity conservation and land degradation neutrality in the Southern Highlands and Hela Provinces of Papua New Guinea through integrated landscape management and natural capital assessment

To promote ecosystem restoration for a productive Mbuluzi River landscape and effectively managed protected areas providing critical ecosystem goods and services

To improve financial sustainability of protected areas and landscapes in the Philippines by mainstreaming the values of biodiversity and natural capital in government planning, especially for ecotourism development

To fast-track readiness and early actions to implement the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework by providing financial and technical support to GEF-eligible Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in their work to review and align their national targets, NBSAPs, policy frameworks, monitoring frameworks and finance with the Global Biodiversity Framework.

The project seeks to strengthen institutional, infrastructural, human & regulatory biosafety capacities of the Governments of Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Madagascar and Namibia in the implementation of NBFs in support of the CPB and (its) Nagoya-Kuala Lumpur Supplementary Protocol on Liability & Redress.
