 UNEP-IETC will co-host a stamp rally event with Tennoji Zoo on November 19 (Sat.) and 20 (Sun.), 2022. While having fun by participating in the stamp rally and mini lectures, participants will think about the connection between animals and waste issues, as well as other environmental issues and how to reduce waste in our daily lives. In this stamp rally, there will be a total of four stamp stands. Children who attend a mini-lecture will receive a special stamp and a prize at the ZOO MUSEUM at the end of the rally.

This year, the International Environmental Technology Centre, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP-IETC) is celebrating its 30th anniversary. UNEP-IETC was established in 1992 based on the decision of the UNEP Governing Council with a mandate to facilitate the transfer of environmentally sound technologies focusing on urban environmental and freshwater issues. In recent years, UNEP-IETC focused its activities on environmentally sound management of solid waste to implement UNEP’s Medium-term Strategies and Programme of Work.

Due to the rapid urbanization in recent years, municipal solid waste management has become a big challenge for many cities, as lower-income cities in Africa are expected to double their municipal solid waste generation within the next 15-20 years.

The ISWA World Congress 2018 will feature a comprehensive scientific programme highlighting the socio-economic impacts of waste recycling, waste reduction, and health, safety and policy regulation pertaining to recycling and climate change. It will also include areas of current interest such as marine and coastal waste management. The scientific programme will culminate with a forum that will see key ASEAN ministers responsible for solid waste management, participate in a dialogue to re-evaluate waste management policy and practices within the region.
