This month, UN Environment celebrates the new opportunities ahead for its much-loved and respected Deputy Executive Director, and congratulates him as he moves into his new role as the Secretary-General’s Special Advisor for the Sahel.
Ibrahim, who served first as Division Director and later as UN Environment’s Deputy Executive Director, dedicated years of unwavering energy to the environment, and his passionate contributions will be remembered fondly across the organization.
“Ibrahim’s experience, deep seated diplomatic skills and personal warmth have advanced the work of UN Environment,” recalled Erik Solheim, Head of UN Environment. “His ability to combine hard policy and serious analysis with personal stories and a sense of humor has inspired and engaged our stakeholders. The incredible challenges facing the Sahel require such a steady hand and I think the Secretary-General could not have selected a better candidate for this position.”
From all of us at UN Environment, we warmly thank Ibrahim Thiaw for his years of hard work, and wish them the very best in the future.
