The resumed first session of the ad hoc open-ended working group to prepare proposals for a science-policy panel to contribute further to the sound management of chemicals and waste and to prevent pollution (OEWG 1.2) was held from 30 January-3 February 2023 in Bangkok, Thailand. 

At its resumed first session, the group elected its Chair, Ms. Gudi Alkemade from the Netherlands and agreed to establish dedicated contact groups to address (a) the organization of work of the OEWG; and (b) scope and the principal functions of the science-policy panel. The group also agreed on an intersessional work plan between the resumed first and second session of the group.

Two dialogues with global experts in chemicals and waste and science-policy interfaces were held at the resumed first session of the ad hoc open-ended working group to prepare proposals for a science-policy panel to contribute further to the sound management of chemicals and waste and to prevent pollution (OEWG 1.2), on (1) the possible scope and (2) the possible functions of the forthcoming panel. 

The aim of these sessions was to provide a discussion on the possible options presented in the main meeting papers to all member states and other participants. These sessions were aimed at stimulating discussion and highlighting the range of options which needed to be considered by the OEWG.
