Conservation, restoration and sustainable use

Addressing ecosystem degradation through conservation, restoration and sustainable use for a resilient future

Healthy ecosystems are vital for resilience and sustainable development, providing essential services and supporting both people and nature.

Terrestrial, freshwater, marine and coastal ecosystems that support biodiversity and livelihoods are being lost to unsustainable development and other harmful practices. To counteract this trend and secure a sustainable future, UNEP is committed to expanding the number of ecosystems under conservation, while promoting restoration and the sustainable use of natural resources.
